How can I switch Apple TV regions for streaming apps?

Hello all,

I would like to buy an Apple TV but as I travel between UK, US and Italy I would like to download various streaming apps that are not available in all respective countries due to regional restrictions.

For example I can't download Channel 4 or RaiPlay apps in the US

Is it possible to create separate Apple accounts for each country (US, Italy and UK) and switch regions accordingly when I’m in that location to access the relevant apps?

If so, what happens to the apps from the other regions? Do they get deleted when I switch, requiring me to download them again each time I travel? Also Does my region get blocked for a certain number of days?

Yes, it is possible to create multiple Apple Accounts, one for each country. Secondary accounts may need to be created on the web (not on an Apple device). It may presumably be a bit more difficult to get a valid payment method as issued in each country. Maybe account balance from local Gift Cards is sufficient?

Each Apple Account will have a country (or country-like region) set to it. That also determines the regionality of the App Store (and media Store).

Once the app is installed using any of the accounts, the app will be on the device Home Screen for any device user account. App updates require the matching account that installed it.

Subscriptions with payment through Apple may only be available through the matching account.

Subscriptions with payment directly to the content provider are independent of the active account.

Third party apps may do additional geolocation checks using various methods, separate from account information. E.g. Channel 4 streaming is only available in the UK and Republic of Ireland. Account switching or other settings don’t alleviate that.

Select Apple services in Apple apps may work for multiple countries, but not all.

Also does my region get blocked for a certain number of days?

Any region blocking can happen during being out-of-region. Time is generally no consideration for this. Once you are in the intended country, it should work again.

This device (and similar from third parties) and the various streaming services are unfortunately not really made with globetrotters in mind. 🤷‍♂️
