iMac prompting for password after setting 'Require Password' to 'never'

I have gone to system settings, Lock Screen and set the "Require Password" to "never". Yet every time I boot it asks for my password. Please help

This setting refers to when you lock the screen or the screen saver starts.

It does not change what happens if you log out or restart your mac.


Now you could make it so you do not have to type your password when starting.

I have to advise against it, but it's possible - unless, as dialabrain suggested, you have FileVault (then you will always need the password).


Here is how: In System Settings->Users & Groups, turn on "Automatically log in as", and choose your account.

Again, this is probably a bad idea, but it's your call.

What year was your Mac (look in About This Mac). Prior to 2017 it will take. A while to decrypt the drive. Much more if you don’t have much free space.

You can use FileVault if you want to, but you will always have to enter your password. I’m not sure what value it is on a desktop Mac unless there are a lot of burglaries in your area.
