Magic Mouse 3 – Shows 0% Battery on Bluetooth, Disconnects Shortly After

Hi everyone,

I'm having a persistent issue with my Magic Mouse 3 and I’d appreciate any help or suggestions.

When I connect the mouse via Lightning cable, it works perfectly and shows 100% battery. But when I switch to Bluetooth, the battery level shows 0%, and the connection drops after a few seconds.

Here’s what I’ve already tried:

  • macOS is fully updated (version 15.3.2 – Sonoma)
  • The mouse is fully charged
  • I’ve unpaired and re-paired it multiple times
  • I reset the Bluetooth daemon using sudo pkill bluetoothd
  • Tested the mouse on other Apple devices (same issue occurs)
  • Left the mouse connected via cable for 30–45 minutes in case of automatic firmware update
  • Sometimes it connects correctly after switching it on/off multiple times
  • Logs show errors like:
    • L2CAP disconnect, status=65535
    • STATUS 708
  • Firmware version seems unstable, switching between 1.0.71.9.2, and 8.6.0

Summary:

Everything suggests that the mouse may have a firmware issue or an unstable Bluetooth chip. Is there any way to re-flash the firmware, or do I need to contact Apple Support for a hardware check?

Thanks in advance!

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 15.4
