iPhone doesn't use Wi-Fi calling when cell signal is very weak
I live in a building with variable cell signal (Verizon / Xfinity Mobile) but excellent Wi-Fi service. My iPhone SE 2nd gen (LTE, not 5G) is set to use Wi-Fi calling.
The phone switches into Wi-Fi calling mode when the cell signal shows one or two bars, but then switches OUT of it when the signal is weak enough (roughly -135dBm) to register as ZERO bars. This causes me to miss incoming calls because the cell connection is unable to complete the call.
I know Wi-Fi calling works because the phone uses it in Airplane Mode, with the cell radio presumably turned off. I am now forced to set Airplane Mode while in the building to have reliable incoming call service.
This was reported about two months ago as Apple Case ID 2**********99. No sign of a resolution to date, it still is present on iOS 18.4.
