Apple Won't Return My Money After my Account Was Hacked!!

I woke up Saturday morning to see hundreds of dollars in charges for an app that I don't own. I am a single user on my account and the phone was next to me the whole time I slept. I reported the issue immediately to apple and they refused to provide me a refund! They also refused to tell me why they would not refund my money. Furthermore, they couldn't explain what happened to my account and won't allow me to change my password. Can I get help here??? It's hundreds of dollars!

  • Do you see the charges here:

  • Do you have any other devices logged into your account when you go to Settings > [name on top], and scroll to the bottom of the screen to see the devices logged into your account.

  • With two factor authentication it would require a code that was sent to your Trusted Device or your Trusted Phone Number, which may be the same, in order to sign a device into your account. When using your Apple ID on another device, even if it is a TV that required the verification code, make sure you log out before you leave.
  • Two factor authentication is not used for purchases, since the device that was making the purchase had already passed the two factor authentication protocol with the verification code.
  • For changing your password, I would suggest first turning off Stolen Device Protection and you may have to wait for the Security Delay, then try changing your password again and after that you can turn Stolen Device Protection back on.

  • Please update what you find out after emailing Apple at dpo@apple.com, as that is the contact for charges due to fraud and they may be able to offer additional details. Most refund requests are due to not wanting to make the purchase, a child that you authorized to use your device or forgetting to cancel a free trial, not fraud related like in your case.

I'm sorry but you are talking to other Apple users in this user to user forum. We cannot process any refunds. I suggest you take this up with Apple. It seems you should at least be able to change your password.

This Apple Support page may help. It has a link to follow if you cannot change your password. It also has some good suggestions to help protect your privacy, including setting up 2 factor authentication.

That is an important clue, as that means someone else knows the password to your account and with two factor authentication also means they were able to view the code on your device or have access to the Trusted Phone number on your account.

What happened when you tapped on the device to remove it from your account and did you recognize them?

Are you seeing an error message when you try to change your password, and if so what is it.

If you suspect fraud was involved, then review the information provided here and email Apple at dpo@apple.com:

I am on here speaking with other apple customers to warn them as much as ask for help. I have tried several options to address and have received no help to date from apple. I have 2factor authentication set up and this all still happened and no response from apple or explanation!

Here's the thing: When I first discovered the purchases (2 hours after they were made), they were not on my account history at all! They did not pop up until hours later that day which is when I first contacted apple. At first I thought it was just my card that was compromised. But if that's the case, why would these charges show up in my apple account??

I travel a lot with work so it's possible there were TVs that I previously logged into... some of the devices I didn't recognize at all.

Regardless, if I have 2 factor turned on, shouldn't that require me to authorize the transaction on my cell phone? No one else knows the password.

Until this morning, when I tapped on the devices to remove them, nothing would happen. Today, I was able to remove all of the other devices.

When I try to change my password, I get no error message. It just scans my face to verify that it's me and then nothing happens. Sometimes, it would start a security 1 hr count down because of my location. But then again it would do the same thing where it scans my face and then nothing.
