storage folder changed name after installing bit defender. Have since uninstalled it.

I would recommend uninstalling BitDefender by following the developer's instructions. Anti-virus software, cleaning/optimizer apps, and third party security software are not needed on a Mac and usually causes more problems than they solve because they all interfere with the normal operation of macOS at a low level.
