Water damage to macbook screen

My macbook got water damage and everything works fine after it dried except the screen only turns on occasionally usually when you open the lid. I have to use an external monitor to use he computer, the apple genius bar says I need a screen for $800 but the screen works perfectly once in a blue moon. I don't think its the screen. Maybe the contection/plug or the lid angle sensor. What could be the solution?
