How do I backup my iPhone SE to my old Macbook Pro Mojave?

I'm a senior citizen and an old retired photographer. When I shoot now it's all volunteer so I have an old version of Lightroom & Photoshop on my MacBook Pro and it's running on Mojave. The work I do now is for free.

I'm trying to backup my old iPhone SE to my MacBook and I only see the name of my phone & it was downloading old photos and STOPPED! I want to back up he phone because my daught just bought me a new iPhone 16 Plus and I don't want to lose the info from my old phone like contacts etc. Any help would be awesome! Thank you!

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.14

Is yours an original iPhone SE? If it’s a second generation or later, I know this will work (assuming its iOS version is current). If it’s first generation, I think you will have this feature but I don’t recall for certain.

Try Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > [Prepare for New iPhone] Get Started. You will see this. Proceed down that path. You won’t need your Mac!
