How do I fix macOS Sequoia update issue on my iMac?

Currently running MacOS 15.1.1 and have tried various updates including 15.4 and none work.

I have tried installing from the apple store and upgrading

Have automatic upgrades turned on

Downloaded the full installer used it

Tried upgrading from the Restore Screen

Tried upgrading in safe mode

Do not get any error messages, the upgrade seems to go through the process and after the iMac restarts it is still running on 15.1.1

Anybody got any ideas

Hi

I have erased and reset the hard drive, then reformatted with disk utility. When the system reloaded it loaded Somona 14.7.5. Restarted in safe mode and ran the updater which went through the process and then when the Mac rebooted still running Somona 14.7.5. I have rerun the Etrecheck report and it show no major or minor issues.

There is a Right way and then there is a Wrong way

Especially for Apple Silicon Computers

The Right way >> For Apple Silicon computer >> Use Disk Utility to erase a Mac with Apple silicon.

On April 12, 2025, the M3 iMac was running Sequoia 15.1.1. An Etrecheck report confirmed this: macOS Sequoia 15.1.1 (24B91).

This appears to be a downgrade from Sequoia 15.1.1 to an older version of Sonoma 14.7.5, which is possible but not through the methods you have described.

Formatting the drive would have erased everything on the computer, including the Recovery Volume, making it impossible to reload Sonoma 14.7.5.

Could you please provide us with the exact steps you used?
