On April 12, 2025, the M3 iMac was running Sequoia 15.1.1. An Etrecheck report confirmed this: macOS Sequoia 15.1.1 (24B91).

On April 13, 2025, Use wrote, “I have erased and reset the hard drive, then reformatted it with Disk Utility. When the system reloaded, it loaded Sonoma 14.7.5.”

This appears to be a downgrade from Sequoia 15.1.1 to an older version of Sonoma 14.7.5, which is possible but not through the methods you have described.

Formatting the drive would have erased everything on the computer, including the Recovery Volume, making it impossible to reload Sonoma 14.7.5.

Could you please provide us with the exact steps you used?
