Magic Mouse 1 Keeps Disconnecting on MacBook Air M1

I'm using a MM Gen1 that I got in 2011 without issues as I type this on a 2024 M4 Pro Macbook Pro. It seems more reliable with the M4 Pro that when used it on my 2012 Macbook Pro 13. Yes, I get a few short disconnects a week but they usually reconnect before becoming a bother.

I cannot correlate BT mouse/keyboard connectivity with battery condition in my usages patterns, but have found that this Apple article often applies:

At home I have few issues. However, my volunteer "job" is as a docent at a local museum and the volunteer desk is Ground Zero for all the museum's tech, including the wireless router, wi-fi enabled printer, cordless phone base station, and some other gear. There, bluetooth disconnects are rather common—and frequent. Recentl we moved the printer to the Director's office and I've had fewer disconnects since.

So check proximity to other wireless devices. Maybe do a little rearranging and then test to see if anything changes.

I have an M1 MacBook Air and I still have a Magic Mouse that takes batteries somewhere. If I can find it I'll see what problem I have if any. Might be awhile.

Found the mouse. Forgot to ask, how frequently? I connected the mouse for testing.

No issue after 20 minutes.

But wait, that is about the duration of the batteries on that generation mouse… 🦟

lol It's a little better than that.

No disconnection after 1 hour+.

1 3/4 hrs and still connected.
