What causes my iPhones to display calls from one another?
I have 2 phones and they show each others phone calls. How can I stop this other then different Apple ID?

You answered your own question. Two phones which share the same Apple Account, will have merged call logs and each phone will see each others voicemail messages. Apple has recommended for more than a decade to NOT share an Apple Account with anyone. So yes, the only way you can stop this is not use the same Apple Account on both phones.
