apple usb-c to 3.5 mm adapter broken out of box

I opened my USB-C to 3.5 MM adapter today and it was broken out of the box. When i plug it into my phone I get this weird static click sound every second or so until I unplug the headphones and very slowly plug them back in. I tested the adapter on my other phones and it had the same issues. This is quite sad as I just spent $9 on this single adapter and haven’t had a minute of use out of it.
