How to recover missing photos from iCloud after turning off Photos on iPhone?

So about a month ago, maybe a little longer I was having issues with no space on my phone so I did a little research and found that I could turn photos off on my phone and then when deleting all the pictures on my phone, it would not affect iCloud And then all my pictures and videos would be stored and safe in iCloud.

This was working great and I upgraded my phone from 14 Pro Max to a 16 Pro Max and I’ve gone into iCloud a couple of times to retrieve certain photos that I’ve wanted on my phone without turning on photos on my phone.

Well, today the 14th, I go in again to iCloud and select the photo app and there’s nothing there. It was just telling me that I had to turn on Photos and I tried several times in different ways to access the photos in iCloud and nothing was working so I turned on photos on my phone and now there’s nothing in iCloud my photos in iCloud are completely gone.

Seriously?! Did Apple seriously delete all of my photos? I’ve had my photos off on my phone the entire time and haven’t deleted anything in iCloud yet. My photos for some reason are gone, so how do I fix this?

The problem with your explanation is that it was over a month that I turned off photos on my phone so it wouldn’t sync and then deleted my entire album from my phone to clear up space and haven’t until about 20 minutes before posting this that I turned it on again But almost immediately turned it back off. I’ve gone into iCloud several times in the last about two months getting photos from iCloud that we’re still in there even after turning sink on my phone off so no, it’s not a sink service. It absolutely is a back up service as that’s what it says on the phone.

You don’t turn on sinking… You turn on back up. There are directions online that tell you as long as you don’t have sync on your phone turned on that you can delete photos from your phone and it doesn’t affect iCloud because it’s not syncing.

I don’t know where you’re getting this that it’s a sinking service and not a backup service as it’s been called and named back up on the phone and in instructions ever since it’s been used.

Instructions don’t say anything about sinking, it says back up. Anytime you have instructions from Apple to erase and reinstall your phone. You’re told to back up first. And on your phone, it’s labeled as back up not sync.

if what you were saying were true within a few days to a week tops, my iCloud library would’ve been gone not over a month later.
