Home screen not responding on iPhone, but side button works
okay when i go to home screen and i touch the screen and doesn’t work but i have to touch the side button to turn it on

First off, what iPhone model do you have? Tap to Wake is only supported on iPhone's with Face ID, so iPhone X and later. If your iPhone's model is supported, go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Tap to Wake > Turn on.
If that doesn't work, I suggest a Forced Restart.

If the entire touch screen isn't working, and you have tried a Forced Restart, there is likely something wrong with your iPhone's screen digitizer that needs to be replaced at an Apple Store Genius Bar or an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
