Can no longer hear incoming and outgoing cellular phone calls using Apple CarPlay.
My vehicle is a 2016 Hyundai i30 with only a wired Apple CarPlay connection, which worked flawlessly for 8 years with iPhones 4, 6s, XR and 15 (up until an iOS update in late March 2024).
Aside from the current issue of no audio with cellular calls, all other aspects of CarPlay appear to be working as they should.
I have tested this issue with my current iPhone 15 Pro, my son's iPhone 15 Pro Max and my wife's iPhone 15 and ALL now have the same problem - NO VOICE audio with both incoming and outgoing cellular phone calls. All three iPhones have been progressively updated since the problem first appeared in March 2024 and now have the latest iOS 18.4.1 which still has not resolved the issue.
An extensive internet search has determined that many others are experiencing the same problem.
I have tried everything recommended by Apple Support AND those with similar issues, without success.
Results of my own troubleshooting, in addition to ALL Apple Support suggestions are as follows:
- I swapped out the SIM card from my iPhone 15 Pro and put in into an old iPhone 6s with iOS 15.8.2, which happily rectified the problem, but obviously not a solution with the family all now using iPhone 15.
- Some of the suggested 'solutions'' (eg: rebooting, reseting iPhone network and/or infotainment unit) resulted in cellular calls being heard initially, but just when I thought the problem had been solved, it reverted to not being able to hear calls via cellular connection.
- CarPlay occasionally connects via cellular call, with audio but goes silent some 5 to 10 seconds later.
- Further troubleshooting determined that I could make FaceTime AUDIO calls without any issues, but again not a solution unless everyone is contacting me via FaceTime audio.
- If I activate the iPhones inbuilt speaker once the cellular call starts (with no sound), both I and the caller can hear each other, but again not ideal and certainly not as it should be (ie: hands-free through the car speakers) and as was prior to the March 2024 iOS update.
- Cellular calls using Bluetooth connectivity work as they should through the cars speakers, when the iPhone is not plugged into Apple CarPlay via USB.
Upon contacting my Hyundai dealership, they reinstalled the latest CarPlay update to my vehicle which did NOT rectify the problem.
I have contacted Apple Support on a number of occasions since March 2024 without any resolution, however I note that the iOS 18.4.1 update mentions '.... addressing a rare issue that prevents wireless CarPlay connection in certain vehicles'. I was hoping that this update might finally resolve the problems I have experienced for over a year now, but as my issue involves a wired CarPlay connection, it didn't.
Any ideas, solutions would be greatly appreciated.
