Why did my Apple Watch stop receiving notifications?

I purchased the iphone 16 Pro. I have a series 5 apple watch. Text notifications stopped coming to my watch when I activated the new phone. I have powered down both devices, DND is not on. Focus is not on. Notifications are on in settings and I set the notifications to mirror my phone for all apps. I removed the watch from my phone and re added it. I have completed all trouble shooting steps. I must have notifications on my watch. I wouldn’t have upgraded my phone if i knew this would happen.

Did you pair your watch to the new iPhone as described in this related article, first restoring the new iPhone from a backup of the old device and then pair the watch in a second step, restoring it from the latest watch backup?
