Phone stolen a month and a half ago, just received a text from “Apple Pay”

my iphone 11 was stolen in march, i just received a text from “Apple Pay” (only contact info an email: ap*****ay@icloud.com) telling me my phone is trying to use apple pay in china and i need to remove the phone from my account. everything else i’ve read has said don’t remove your phone from your account. is this a scam? there’s no links to click on or anything it’s just telling me to remove the phone from my account.

This is a scam! Removing your device from your account would allow the person who has it to set it up as their own. You can certainly Mark as Lost or Erase the Device, and neither one of those would remove it from your account.
