My iPhone 12 auto-updated to 18.4 and now only the front camera works. As this seems to have been reported and discussed several times in the last few years, for a variety of models and iOS versions, I wonder if Apple have finally come up with a real solution even though the problem arises under a specific set of concurrent conditions

You need to have Apple perform diagnostics on your iPhone. It can be done in person at an Apple Retail Store or at an Apple Authorized Service Provider. You can also contact Apple Support and request remote diagnostics.
