This is not an uncommon issue with many Qi car chargers. The camera bump and the fact your iPhone is MagSafe, can make it more difficult to charge an iPhone on a wireless charging mat in a car. My previous car wouldn't charge my iPhone. My current car does. It's not an Apple issue. It's an issue with where the charging coil is located in the cars mat. And honestly, most car manufacturers don't spend much money on the charging matts in their cars.
Do you have your phone in a case? It can actually help with the camera bump issues. And I have found that having a MagSafe Case on the phone can help as well.
