Why can't I open files on my iMac from my MacBook?

I bought a new iMac and restored a backup. I work on my MacBook and iMac now.

I cannot work in numbers and pages files any more because "i am not autorised'.

Finder -> Info file -> Share and autorisation

Does not work

it shows my Apple account with the permission for 'reding and writing'.

But I can not save etc.

For 'everyone' it shows 'no permission'

What can I do ?

What are the permissions for both your Home folder and for your Desktop folder?

You can use Get Info, but this Terminal command will give better information (you can copy and paste).

ls -aleOd ~/ ~/Desktop

You'll get something like this:

drwxr-xr-x+ 46 barney staff - 1472 May 2 12:12 /Users/barney/
 0: group:everyone deny delete
drwx------@ 4 barney staff - 128 Mar 27 01:38 /Users/barney/Desktop
 0: group:everyone deny delete
 1: group:everyone deny writeextattr

Copy the output and paste it into a reply, here.

How did you "restore" your backup? You should have Migrated from the backup which will migrate the entire user account from the backup. You then log into that account and use it.

What account on what Mac are you using, and where are the files stored?

Do you have Desktop & Documents in iCloud Drive enabled? Are you signed into the same Apple Account on both Macs?

For 'everyone' it shows 'no permission'

That is correct.

There is no “restore” of an entire Mac anymore. You can only reinstall macOS, then use Migration Assistant to restore user accounts. So, I assume that’s what you did.

I have the files stored on Google Drive (and local).
It is the same account for both computers

Do you have the same problem for local files as you do with Google Drive?

Hi Barney,

Yes I have the same problem with files that are locally stored like on my desktop.
I used the Migration Assistant to put back one backup.
I was happy that all restored including my desktop, backgronds etc.
But now this occures and that is realy bad.

I’m not sure why it is happening. I thought maybe it could be something related to restoring the cloud files, but if it affects the local files, I don’t know. Everything seems to be correct except the actual performance you are experiencing.
