Midi Studio configuration ; back to the old time using my Unitor 8

Hello

After disconnecting all my midi devices I am back to the old time using them.

I open old Midi songs to re-arrange them better and I want to recover the port order of my AMT Unitor 8 that was used at that time

My questions :

1) I have a few Midi interface how do I set the order to appear in Logic

I want that the ports of my old Unitor 8 show first in the imported old midi song so they are correctly assign.

2) Can you add Icons ? where do you put them ?

Thanks in advance for your help

I am not sure if I've understood you correctly. But you can either copy and paste parts or entire layers from the old environment into a new project or just create a new layer with new objects. Access the environment with command+0 (zero). You may have to assign the interfaces / ports manually once.

Custom icons can be placed here:

~/Music/Audio Music Apps/Custom Icons/

edit:

The environment has not developed any further in the last 30 years, that means, everything that worked 30 years ago is still valid today.

  1. I'm wondering, do you really need 16 unlabeled IAC driver ports? IAC ports are already multi-timbral and only necessary for inter-application communication.
  2. I've never cared about the icons in the Audio-Midi Setup. However, there is a folder which you can try to use. But I don't know if this works. You need to reboot Audio-Midi-Setup very likely and maybe to restart your computer because it's on system level. /Library/Audio/MIDI Devices/Generic/Images
  3. You could create multi-instruments in the Environment, give them custom icons (place them here ~/Music/Audio Music Apps/Custom Icons) and maybe you find a way to sort them by giving appropriate names in the Environment. Use .tiff format for the images/icons.

Hello YoyoBen and Haudeda

Many thank for answering.

I give you a little bit more detail.

This is the order of the inputs,

I would like that my AMT 8 are showing first to respect the old configuration ; that will save me some time not having to reassign each synth.

In Logic when I open an old Logic song the AMT8 does not show first

This is a midi pedal, I would like to have the image of a midi pedal :

Hello yoyoBen

Thanks for your answer.

1) IAC, I have some old song using VEP where I send Midi thru IAC

2) Thanks ! great !

I am still working on the order of the Midi Interfaces and I have lost all I did !

I have found a new problem with my two Presonus 2626 ; when I play a song the sound in Music uses the output 1 and 2 of my first 2626, when I play from Logic it uses the output 1 and 2 of my second 2626 !!

I'm also using IAC, but I've only 2 ports created. One (unlabled) IAC port for general purposes and another one for a specific software which I've labeled for better differentiation with the name of the software. This gives me still 32 (2x16) midi channels for inter-application communication. It was just a hint to get rid of unused menus, what I thought you've asked before...

This might be either

• a setting in the control software of presonus. I don't know presonus and how it works. But with RME, for instances, you can set it up in their control software.

• or (if the presonus software is not capable to handle this) a setting that you can organize in your Mac's Audio Midi Setup > Aggregate Device. By creating an Aggregate Device you are able to combine several soundcards (also from different brands) to one audio device.

Hello YoyoBen

Thanks for your answer.

If you are using the VSL and IAC you need two ports per desk

i.e. : string, wind, brass, percussion, kbd, and so on

I am of course using the Aggregate Device

I have manage to solve the problem creating another Aggregate Device with the Presonus interface in different order, it was a try and error because they had the same name.

For the Midi I have created Devices in the Midi Studio, in a few clicks I will be able to assign them on the good port.

Now I have to spend hours testing all this little world.

By any chance, do you know the file of the Audio/Midi studio so I can back it up, I dont want to loose again my configuration ?

Many thanks

Best

Cyril

I don't know the location of the stored configuration. You could just store the configuration with a (very) unique name and search your computer. Unfortunately, you'll need very likely a 3rd-party tool for that since Spotlight doesn't search your entire computer.
