why is my WiFi SSID redacted?

upgraded to 15.6 and "ipconfig getsummary en0" now only ever gives me that my Wi-Fi SSID is <redacted>

the airport command line is now defunct, I've also tried "ioreg -l -n AirportDriver |grep 80211SSID" and also got <SSID Redacted>

networksetup -getinfo Wi-Fi only gives me a mac address for my Wi-Fi

I know I can get it from the GUI but I want a script that compares my current SSID with a list I have of trusted Wi-Fi SSID's which I was able to run on 15.5 - but now cannot

Have I missed something or should I report this as a new feature?

I stand by the Python code I provided earlier. Simpler, less overhead, more supportable, and untouched by AI. The entire pyobjc package installed is only 4.1 MB.

Errata to Aug 1, 2025 Python source comment:

pip3 install -U objc

should be:

pip3 install -U pyobjc

The Python code that I posted earlier works just fine for me in Python 3.13.7 installed directly from the python.org installer, and with the full pyobjc bridge installed. Tested: Sequoia v15.6.

Thanks - that means there is something else blocking things on my setup that is not within normal expectations.

Probably your inclination to install Python3 with homebrew, or cherry-picking pyobjc bridge items. I do neither and have no issues with the code I provided.

That worked on 15.7! I appreciate this info.

An applescript I wrote the used sendkeys also broke ( no permission to send keystrokes ) with 15.7.

I'm still investigating that.
