Pages deletes existing text in table cell

I have a document where the text is in a table. When I click in a cell to append text, the entire cell is selected and the cell content is deleted when I start typing. Fortunately “edit/undo typing “ usually restores the original text but this has become a daily nuisance for me. I cannot see any setting to stop the cell contents all being selected when I click in the cell.

With existing text in a Pages 14.4 table cell on iPadOS 18.6.1, and without that table cell selected, you should be able to just tap twice on that cell to position your insertion beam somewhere in the existing cell text, and a third-tap to position behind the existing text so that you can then append text to the cell.

Pages will destroy any selected text when you attempt to type. Same on the Mac.
