How to fix black highlight in .docx file exported from Pages?

When I export a document to docx using Pages and send it to another device both android or iphone, all texts are highlighted in black.

I tried not using dark mode but still doesn't work (the Pages is already set as 'no fill on background' and 'no highlight').

Is there a way to fix this?

I cannot duplicate what you describe using a Pages Blank template and default regular font weight black text. Documents exported as docx in this manner open with normal appearance on i/Pad/mac/OS and MS Word v16.100.1.

Pages is not a Word clone and does not respond to the operating system's appearance setting for the document background, or allow you to override document background appearance in its settings. If you use a black template, or deliberately set the Pages document background to black, you will not export normal appearance Word documents.

If you use custom fonts that you have downloaded and are not installed on the target devices, then Pages (and other word processing applications) on those platforms will perform font substitution with unexpected appearance results.

Tested: Pages v14.4 on macOS Sequoia v15.6.1.

It would appear that you have set the Text Layout panel's Paragraph Background to black and your text color to white. I suggest that you change that setting to transparent with black text color.

You are also using the More Text Options Outline font feature with the yellow text background color. That outline treatment makes the selected text more difficult to read and the yellow background color would be sufficient alone.
