I have documents I wish to keep concerning my brother who has a disability, so I would like to have them in a space of their own on my computer. Any ideas please

Create a folder in documents and store the documents there. If you wish to sync to other devices, enabled desktop and documents in iCloud or store in the iCloud Drive folder. And, of course, be sure to use Time machine (or similar) to back up your important documents.

It would seem that the documents are sensitive so you might think about storing them in a password protected disk image (I like sparse bundles).

I keep all my sensitive data in password protected encrypted disk images.
They are easy to create in Disk Utility. Just be sure to set it up as a sparse disk image with a large enough maximum size to allow for future additions to the sparseimage.
And be sure to backup your Mac with Time Machine or other backup app. Time Machine is included with all Macs and only needs an external drive to get started.
