Sound icon disappears when `Control Center` is closed even if `Sound` is set to `Always Show in Menu Bar`

  1. Sound icon is not displayed so I go to the `Control Center` and navigate to `Sound`
  2. Confirm that the dropdown shows `Always Show in Menu Bar`
  3. Sound icon is displayed; if using an external sound device, an icon of a headset is displayed
  4. Close `Control Center`
  5. Icon disappears

Thanks for the response @dialabrain! It finally dawned on me that what is going on is if I have Chrome in the foreground, the Sound app icon is not visible. So just by hiding Google Chrome, the icon is "magically" visible again. This turns out to be just an issue with using a non Mac OS browser with my Macbook Air. While it isn't ideal, it is not such a huge issue. I just wished Apple had a way of preventing it.

Ironically, I accidentally discovered this today when I had my Thinkorswim trading platform in the foreground and could see the Sound icon.

FWIW, I can't reproduce the problem on my Macs. So it seems it is local to your machine. First, test while in Safe Mode: Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

If it doesn't occur while in Safe Mode then you have something installed causing the problem. If it does occur during Safe Mode, then one of the pref files is corrupt. Unfortunately I don't know which one.

To add to the above description, merely activating another app even though the `Control Center` is still open in the background causes the Sound icon to disappear from the menu bar. What is going on with Mac OS. This issue with the Sound app icon has gotten worse over time.

What is the solution here besides what people suggest which is to select `Always Show in Menu Bar` from the `Control Center`? Please see the embedded Youtube video for a demo of the issue. As the video will show, the setting is already properly selected. Ironically, when Quicktime is the active app in the foreground, the icon IS displayed. I happened to record the embedded Youtube video using Quicktime.
