Linking iOS 26 devices to Mac OS 15 Laptop

Hello,

So, with iOS 26 on the horizon, I have a question regarding whether or not I should update my devices or not. I have an iphone, and two ipad minis that can upgrade to the new iOS 26. However, my laptop's final OS will be the Sequoia (Mac OS 15).

Will I still be able to link my devices up to my laptop if they updated to iOS 26? I personally still prefer to use a usb c to sync up my devices to my laptop.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 15.7

There "should not" be any problem. iOS devices running iOS 26 should be expected to work with Tahoe, Sequoia & Sonoma because they continue to be supported macOS releases. But I would expect it to also work with Ventura and probably even Monterey.

For example, in my own case I'm running iOS 18.6.2 on my iPhones with Macs running macOS Monterey (12.7.6) ... four generations of releases separate them, and they work perfectly fine together.

But why don't you just wait for awhile after iOS 26 is released to let the dust settle before you update your iPhone & iPad minis. In my experience it's best not to rush into the newest release of an operating system.

Mirroring what MartinR is saying..

Apple releases secondary software updates just for that reason.

If your Mac says that a software update is required to connect to iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Those updates allow for USB syncing newer iOS devices with an older macOS computers and vise-versa.

I also agree with MartinR, that it might be a good idea to bring the Mac up to 15.7, the iOS devices up to 18.7 and wait a little to update the iOS devices to macOS 26.
