White calendar widget in dark theme

Hi, I have a white calendar widget after updating to macOS 26, even though I have dark mode enabled in the general settings. How can I fix this? I already tried removing and re-adding the widget to the desktop and restarting the system, switch between dark and light mode, but nothing helped.

Thank you.

The setting you're looking for is in System Settings > Appearance > Icon & widget style. If set to Default, you'll get white backgrounds on calendar widgets, black backgrounds on stocks widgets, orange backgrounds on tips widgets, etc. Set it to Dark if you want them all dark. Note that this affects the Dock icons, as well.

Great news — the white widget issue is fixed in macOS Tahoe 26.1

If you were seeing bright white widgets while using Dark Mode on macOS 26, that’s now fully resolved in the latest update, macOS Tahoe 26.1. The fix isn’t limited to the Calendar widget — all system and third-party widgets now correctly follow your system appearance. No extra steps or workarounds needed — everything just looks right again.

What he means is that before Tahoe, when you had Dark mode enabled, both the calendar and reminder widgets were dark, with Tahoe the issue is, that you need to change now the icons to Dark, which unfortunately also changes all other icons as well. I do not like the dark icons but would like to have the widgets dark as it was before.

making changes and compare your results.

I've certainly tried. I do not see any way to alter the default background for the widgets but keep their color display. Using the clear or tinted options allows a dark background but with a monochrome foreground.
