I had used the default automatic updates on my Mac Mini M1 after installing 15.7. I turned them auto off when reading negative feedback comments about Tahoe. I'm wondering if there's any way to remove the red update bubble.
While I've always updated in the past, I'd also be interested in getting feedback from those with M1 Macs who HAVE updated..it's a huge file and I've already done a Time Machine back up.
Make a system settings alias icon and put that in the doc. It will not have the red dot or bubble reminder. Just right click on the icon and select alias.
Go to your Applications folder, secondary-click (control-click, two-finger click) on the System Settings app and select Make Alias from the contextual menu. Secondary-click on the System Settings icon in the dock, select Options > Remove from dock, and drag the new alias (the same icon with a little arrow) into its place. The alias won't show the notification.
Personally, I'm finding macOS 26 Tahoe to be stable and fun.
Please describe the procedure for making the alias since I've never needed to do it before. And if you've installed Tahoe would love to get your feedback. I've never seen so many negative comments about a major update like this one
Thanks so much..and good to hear something positive..not sure if you look at the Mac Rumors site, but there are over 100 comments about it and very few of them are positive. I want to avoid going back to Sequoia if its as ugly as most are saying
Some people don't like change. Plus, people who are unhappy with something tend to be more likely to post about it than people who are happy. For example, if you own a car try a Google search for "[my make model] transmission problems" and you'll probably get thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of hits even if your car is fine.
Sure, the UI is different. But it's still macOS. I do like that my internal drive icon looks more modern than the old spinning HDD icon. 😉

Negative comments will always outnumber positive ones. People who are happy with Tahoe are not going to Mac Rumors (or any other forum) and posting, "I love Tahoe!!!!"
In the brief time Tahoe has been on my Mac, I haven't had any issues. "Ugly" is a matter of opinion and preference. It doesn't seem to look much different to me. But then, I don't spend a lot of time worrying about how it looks. As long as it works and is easy to use, I'm happy.
One thing some people don't like is the removal of Launch Pad. If Launch Pad is your favorite thing about macOS, Tahoe is going to be an adjustment.
The OP provided how to make the alias. For me Tahoe required some appearance adjustments for my eyes then it is OK however I do like how Safari26 handles my bookmarks in the sidebar. They do not stay open after closing out Safari.
On your recommendation, I installed Tahoe and agree..no need to use the alias now
