Alternative to QuickTime 7 PRO for M3 Pro Sonoma?

I was a very happy user of QuickTime 7 PRO on my old MBP High Sierra.

QuickTime 10 lacks in user friendly features like editing an audio recording. What would be a suitable (free or not too expansive if possible) alternative to QuickTime 7 PRO?

There is no software with all of the same features, so you’ll have to select what is a reasonable fit for you, which depends on how you used QuickTime 7 Pro.

For some that is ffmpeg, for some that is HandBrake, for some that is iMovie, for some that Final Cut Pro, for some that is QuickTime 10.
