Apple Pay declining new card on new iPhone 17 Pro

I just upgraded today to the iPhone 17 Pro. Since moving over, all my Apple Pay payments are being declined on this new phone. The same cards still work perfectly on my Apple Watch and my old iPhone, but not on the new one.

  • Same card, same bank, same details.
  • Apple Pay is set up on the new phone, but every transaction fails.
  • No issues when using the watch or the old phone.

Has anyone faced this? Do I need to re-verify with the bank or reset Apple Pay on the new phone?

I spoke with CBA, and they explained that the transactions were blocked on purpose. When you sign in to a new device, they send a verification request to your old device. If you don’t approve it within 8 hours, they automatically place restrictions on all your cards. To fix it, you just need to call CBA, let them know you’ve updated your phone, and they’ll remove the restrictions.

My wife and I are having the same issue. My last post was moved to a different thread, but it's clearly an ApplePay issue, is only happening on my new iPhone 17 Pro Max (and my wife's iPhone 17 Pro). It happens when we are making purchases at a store using their app, and then are asked to complete the purchase with ApplePay. The payment on our new phones does go through, and we get a "payment failed" message.

It's not in-app purchases exactly, but when we try to complete an online purchase using ApplePay.

I am experiencing the same problem. Apple 17 pro. It’s beyond frustrating. I have completed all the troubleshooting steps and it’s still not working. I hope it’s not the material it’s built with or something that blocks it from working indefinitely! The banks have nothing to do with it just fyi to those that have advised contact your bank. There’s no issues on their end and said to escalate the issue to Apple.

There are multiple different issues being discussed in this thread. Most are concerning two banks that have admitted it’s a bank related issue (CBA and NAB).

So, your yelling at fellow community members trying to help is not appreciated.

Please clearly state what your issue is and what bank it concerns. What exactly did the bank support team say when you contacted them?
