logic automation reassign midi channel

Hi all,

I have a volume automation for an external midi instrument which was originally created on midi channel 1.

I'd like to reassign that automation to midi channel 6. If I change the midi output setting in the track window to 6, I seem to get 2 outputs, one on 1 (the original) and one on 6. I've tried selecting the automation, creating a new track on channel 6 and then pasting in the automation data but it seems to retain its original channel 1 assignment.

Is there any way to reassign the midi channel on an existing automation?
