macOS Tahoe public Beta and developer beta is offered to 2018 15" MBP, what to do?

macOS Tahoe public Beta and developer beta is offered to 2018 15" MBP, what to do? But, no full Tahoe is offered. If I agree, will that beta update brick the MBP?

[EDIT]

I just realized …

The reason that your 15" 2018 MacBook Pro is not offering you Tahoe is that your Mac is not compatible with Tahoe. For it, Sequoia is the end of the line.

I'm surprised that it is offering you beta versions of Tahoe – and certainly would not recommend installing them.

"What to do" is to live with Sequoia, or, if you absolutely must have Tahoe, to get a new Mac.

Me too. It also shows that Apple developers are not exactly up to date, and their actions would brick a very good device without taking responsibility for that.

I am quite happy to live with Sequoia. I like that old-fashioned Launchpad to the new Linux like menu (or Apps). I don't really like the Vista like glassy look, even though I liked Vista when it was there. I have a M4 Mac mini, and I have that Tahoe since developer beta came through. No, I don't need a new MBP. The "what to do" is not about me doing something.

Tahoe is already released, a few days ago. And, there's no beta release at this moment. If there was, I'd had that in my M4 Mac mini. But,...

why would Apple (or its developers) offer such Tahoe beta software to unsupported devices? To brick them?

It is not a perfect science.

Ignore it.

To be proactive you can file a bug report / submit your Apple Feedback here:  Product Feedback - Apple

point updates to follow are still in Beta yes.

I am running an Intel Mac with macOS 26 Tahoe with no issue.
You need to go back and review Apple Computers compatible with Tahoe posted above.

There are only four Intel-based Mac models that are compatible with Tahoe.

  • MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
  • iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020)
  • Mac Pro (2019)

The OP's 15" 2018 MacBook Pro is not one of them – yet the OP says that the machine is offering to install beta versions of macOS 26.

Sure, I know that. I'm just letting others know not to get caught, or at least to try that in another partition. Beta testing and providing feedback is what I do. I've been doing it since the very first day I joined the Mac club. ☺️

I guess I was a thrown off by your original post as written...my apologies.

That's alright. :)
Tahoe, in whatever form, should not be offered by Apple developers to unsuspecting users of unsupported devices. I won't be doing that, as I keep an eye on what's happening, and I consider myself a kind of beta tester. For all those who are still using Intel Macs, don't fall for such "tricks," as you could end up bricking your Mac.

this entire thread seems to be getting more and more convoluted.
