Airpods pro 3 chirp/high pitch noise

Hi,

I just got the AirPods Pro 3 and whenever I put them in my ears/adjust them or just listen to music, I hear a high pitched sound/chirp in my left ear.

I tried all the troubleshooting possibilities such as resetting, changing from ANC/transparency/adaptive/off, cleaned them, tried different tip sizes, etc.

I even tried putting the right airpod in my left ear and it still happens in the left, so I’m guessing it’s an issue with my ear canal but I was still thinking if getting a replacement could help or if I could tone down the feedback that causes this.

I also had a few tries in the accesibility tab to tone down the transparency amplification but that didn’t work either.

My normal airpods 3 didnt have this issue at all so I guess it’s related to feedback from ANC/transparency. Does anyone else have this issue? The only temporary fix I found is placing the tip 0.1mm away from the airpod, right before it snaps into place and that makes it better

Thanks

Ok so after reading all these comments and booking a consultation with Apple (later cancelled - read on to see why) I am confident I have found the solution. And the answer? Diligently try ALL ear tips making sure the AirPods are “screwed” into your ear. I started with the as supplied ear tips and got the chirping. Which is actually random electronic ringing caused by the anc feedback loop overworking. I then tried small tips. No improvement which is when I booked a call to Apple. But then I thought why not try the large ones. Hey Presto problem solved for me at least with the correct size ear tips again in my case the large ones. After two days no chirping so I cancelled my Apple meeting. Now a week later and still no chirping and all is good. I’m getting 8 hours of battery life in hearing mode with a couple of hours of streaming in the mix. Of note I regularly “re-screw” the AirPods as they seem to want to work their way out of my ears. But overall a good experience. No ear discomfort after a whole day of use and absolutely no chirping. Even took a 1 hour domestic flight on a 737 in cattle class and the anc was a huge benefit. So keeping testing those ear tips until you find the right size and not necessarily the same size for both ears. Oh and that “tip” about rotating the ear tips. Rubbish. The ear tips are symmetrical. Sadly our ears aren’t. By patient and persevere. It’s worth it.

Hi Double Canoe,

I have received my AirPods Pro 3’s recently, 4 days ago to be exact.

While I have been getting the chirping noise when I screw the AirPods into my ears, I am yet to try changing the orientation of the tips and going through the size options for an exact resolution. While that is the case, I have noticed a few other issues like:

  1. the AirPods register as 2 devices when connecting to my iPhone 15. It may be a UI issue, where things are being displayed wrong due to a bug, but then it has been draining my phone’s battery extremely fast.
  2. It may be a ‘ME’ problem, but the until the first reset on the AirPods, I wasn’t aware that the audio profiles could be turned off as well. I was only seeing adaptive audio, transparency and anc in the carousel. BTW, I had gotten an apple representative on a call for a screen sharing session and highlighted this to them. Suffice to say, even they were a bit baffled when they saw it.
  3. The mic in the AirPods isn’t able to properly grasp it when I call out Siri. I am often left out calling for Siri to make quick calls or actions.
  4. ANC Overcompensation: I have noticed this during the past 4 days of my usage, but the AirPods really overcompensate with the anc, in the sense that they put too much pressure on my ears where it isn’t actually required. While I understand that the anc is always being adjusted with accordance to the situation, but in low to medium noisy environments, J have found that the pressure put on my ears by the AirPods in ANC mode is quite frankly too much, to the point where I feel uneasy and irritated due to it.
  5. Not really an AirPods issue, but an iPhone issue: I don’t know how many of you experience this, but ever since I upgraded to the IOS 26, the system keeps throwing weird bugs, and most major among them, my call record are not visible in the phone app. Till yesterday, I was having a very hard time with this, and the apple support team asked me to turn off the ‘call screening against unknown numbers’ feature and the ‘Unknown calls filtering’ options to finally show me my phone directory.
  6. Don't get me wrong, I’m happy to oblige, but I do get calls from both- known and unknown sources all throughout the day, and I don’t want to be bothered by the unnecessary calls, but that is the price I’m asked to pay for receiving my call records as they should be. I’m really hoping that this will be fixed at the earliest or I’m toast at work.

These bugs are a bit irritating because I had expected that at this price range at least, I wouldn’t have to worry about these issues.

To me, AirPods are still solid picks for music and calls due to excellent microphone, and it is what matters to me the most, but the experience is getting ruined coz of these bugs and issues.

To Apple: please check the forum and resolve these issues. I was planning on creating an Apple ecosystem and want to get in at a point when these issues won’t be a concern.

Same here,

high pitched static noise in ANC and transparency modes and high pitch squeal when adjusting the earbud in any of augmented listening modes. Only the left ear mind you.

Returned the first pair, bought second pair - the same issue persists. Tested all the tip sizes didn’t help much.

Only usable when listening mode is on Off which one has to manually select in settings switch the option on.

FW version 8B25

Few days left to return. Hoping against all hope that this will be resolved by Apple.
