App Store asking for wrong Apple ID password for app updates

Hi, I had an earlier query but this is an update. My phone has my AppleID & email address. But when I go in to the App Store, to update 'all' apps, it asks me to enter my AppleID password....the problem is it's showing my hubby's AppleID instead of mine. But it should show mine and not his. In Settings, it's my AppleID anywhere it shows AppleID details. So I can't figure out how to change all to mine. This is a recent discovery, as it hadn't happened before as I have been able to update with no issue.

Hi. No it wasn’t his phone: mine from new. I could update as normal till a couple of weeks ago and no I’ve not downloaded any apps on my phone under his details.

If you set up the iPhone from a backup of a previous one, it could have apps form a previous phone that were downloaded with his Apple ID. The fact remains these Apps where downloaded with his account which is why they are requesting it now.

If I reinstall all apps (currently doing that, it’ll take a while), will the App Store then show my email address?

For the Apps in question, yes. For the general App Store the Apple ID being used is defined in Settings ➜ Account ➜ Media & Purchases. If your Apple Account is not logged in there then deleting the app and re-downloading them will do nothing as the apps would continue to be tied to whatever Apple ID is logged in there.

A few apps are saying I’ll delete all data if I delete the app (Facebook being one), do I just go ahead?

Yes. Facebook will restore everything once you log back in.

What about the phone’s own apps: Mail, Photos etc? Ok to delete and reinstall those?

Those should not be tied to another Apple ID, since they aren't usually downloaded from the store to begin with, and those get updated with the OS, so no need to delete them. But yes, it's fine to delete those apps also, and re-download them from App Store for the ones that allow this. Not all of them do.

The Apple Account that is tied to the apps downloaded is the one you find at Settings > [name on top] > Media & Purchases. In most cases, this is the same as the main Apple Account on the top of the page, but it certainly is possible to use a different account there to be used for apps downloaded from the App Store.

If it is your husband's account that is listed at Media & Purchases, then it requires their password to update apps with the apps downloaded using that account.

I deleted and re-installed all apps that weren't originally on phone. Tedious but done! So far so good: all are updated & OK. I'll have to wait till the next update promt to see. I signed out of my Apple Account and back in - it was my own email showing before and after so that's OK. It's when I clicked on my picture on top right of Apple Account page, and then Update, that his email address showed.

I'm still confuzzled as to why all this only happened now, when I had been able to update with no issue for years.

Thanks all for your help - I'd still be well stuck otherwise!!!
