Tahoe 26.0.1 update

For those who are attempting the Software Update  for Tahoe 16.0.1 released Monday Sept 29

Be  aware,  the Apple Servers appear to be ill equipped  to handle the demand at this time

Though, the same update performed Monday Sept 29 @ 17:30 Hrs EDT over the same Fibre Optic. connection took about 10 minutes, Start to Finish and a successful login

Have been downloading since 04:00 AM EDT Tuesday over a Fibre  Optic connection

The download times are all over the map from 12 hours to 1 day and back to 11 hours  for a 10.20 GB update

Suggestion, try at some other time or better still try another day

This situation is beyond our control

Mac mini, macOS 26.0

Below is a pre- perpared reply from a Standard Trouble Shooing regarding this issue

There are factors:

Some which are beyond your control and those which are totally under your control

Like poor Wifi connection

Slow wifi connection

Too many other people downloading at the same time and Apple  Servers are overloaded

Software on the computer interfering with the download process including AntiVirus Software

Notation: Disabling the AV Software may or may not solve the issue.

Removal of the AV Software may increase the chances of the download to perform as expected.

Running behind a Commercial VPN which may increase Packet losses or corruption of the download

Turn off any Third Party Two Way Firewall and try again

If via wifi  & too many Other devices using the wifi at the same time reducing the Bandwidth to your computer.

Best Results are via Ethernet Cable to Router

Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal

Try Again using the Software Update Applet in System Preferences / Setting

Worst case - Restart in Recovery Mode and choose Reinstall macOS.

This in theory will pull the latest version of macOS this computer qualifies to run

At this point, Apple is all green including macOS Software Update.

Apple - Support - System Status

I updated to 26.0.1 less than an hour ago, the whole process (download and install) took 15-20 min on my M4 Pro MBP.

If one whats to trust the Statue site Apple - Support - System Status for Software updates

One is welcome to do so.

As outlined earlier re Monday experience - I would agree

If doing so today, Tuesday on a M4 machine - not so much

Will try later today on another M4 Laptop currently with Tahoe 26.0

Same wifi 6E, same physical proximity to Route and yes same Fibre Optic 1 GB Up / Down speeds

I have been having this issue for months on my computer, but for Sequoia. When using the 'softwareupdate --fetch...' command, mine will say: "Install failed with error: Update not availabIe." I work in a school district where all the teachers use Macs and I want to have the latest version on a thumb drive to copy to their computer so it goes faster. Now that Apple is on Tahoe and our District has not yet approved it to update to, I absolutely need the latest Sequoia to upgrade from Sonoma - or use one of my older Sonoma packages and update two times. Taking a teacher's computer away is a great inconvenience while they are teaching, so I need to streamline the process for them as much as possible.

Today I ran into this problem again as I am trying to fix some streaming issues for a teacher who is on Sonoma. I got the error again when using my computer. I checked my disk space and had plenty. I removed the plist for updates and I restarted my computer. Yet nothing helped. I checked the teacher's computer and she had 1/2 the space on her computer than I had, but still enough, so I tried using the command from her computer and voila - I was able to download 15.7.2!

I have no idea why, but perhaps my issues started when I upgraded to Sequoia. I did not have time to go back to her computer and check to see if I could do it again now that she is in Sequoia. Or maybe I could have used a different user account on my computer to try it. Who knows for sure?! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Booted the M4 MBA ruining Tahoe 26.0.1

Presto, found the Tahoe 26.1 Update measuring in at about 13.xx GB

Booted the M2 Mac Mini also with Tahoe 26.0.1

Ran the software update and Presto - No Update available

Ran the Terminal command on this machine >> softwareupdate --list-full-installers <<
