Credit Card AutoFill Crashes WebKit Process on Safari 26.0.1

After updating to Safari 26.0.1 on macOS Sonoma 14.8.1, any attempt to autofill a form with a saved credit card will cause the WebKit process to crash. This happens as soon as AutoFill has been authorized via Touch ID or manual password entry. The web page then instantly reloads with the dreaded “This webpage was reloaded because a problem occurred.” banner along the top.

This logging in Console.app seems relevant:

I've been having same problem on MacBook Air 2018 with Sonoma 14.8.2 & Safari 26. I received same support advice today (opened chat with Apple Safari support but was transferred to Apple OS support?). OS reinstall worked as well. After reinstall, still on same Sonoma ver but Safari is now 17.6 (19618.3.11.11.5) vs. 26. Now I'm not sure whether I need to decline Safari updates.

Another nuisance introduced with Safari 26.0.1 is the painful delay when creating a new tab and typing into the location bar. Safari freezes for 2-3 seconds before it responds to keystrokes. Also, the auto-complete list produces frustratingly inconsistent results for the all-important Top Hit.

There is a Reddit article about this particular bug and it contains a download link to Safari 18.6 for Sonoma. I installed that and everything is back to normal again. Auto-Fill for credit cards works and the location bar is super responsive. What a relief.

I also am having this issue (Safari 26.1, Sonoma 14.8.2)

In addition to the credit card issue, I am also seeing similar crashes when using the password manager. I have recently needed to create two different user accounts on two different websites, you know the deal: you fill out the form, pick a username, and let Safari pick a strong password. This now crashes the browser. Interestingly, if I pick my own password, it does not crash. So I am guessing that, just like the credit card bug, the act of Safari auto-filling the password field is what does it, but typing the information in manually works.
