I've recently updated my iPhone 17 to iOS 26.0.1 & now my always on display (AoD) is not functioning properly, the display goes dark even when AoD is on. I've tried disabling & reenabling the toggle, restarted the phone but to no avail. Is this a bug ? Are any other users having this issue ? Please help !

My iPhone 17 Pro Max does the same thing. Always-on just stops working. Power off and power on only fixes it temporarily.
I was having the issue while I was reading this forum. I saw someone mention they have an Apple Watch Ultra 3. I have one as well and decided to take it off and see if that has something to do with it.
low and behold. The minute I took my watch off, the phone’s Always on Display worked. Immediately. I put the watch back on and it is still working.
never use a focus mode and none was set
before I took my watch off.
I’ll see if this is a pattern.

Yeah, I typed the message and it worked fir 10 minutes and it was off again. Sent feedback to Apple
If someone says to me that this is supposed to be some sort of a new "Power Saving Mode" feature in iOS 26, I'd call your bluff and tell you that, that does not make any sense. Why would a feature like this need to kick in to turn the AOD off when I am away from my phone but not turn it back on when I come back to my phone, even if I'm not using it. The AOD was on before I walked away from my phone, so would it not make sense to have the AOD turn back on when I come back to my phone as well?
Well I don’t own an Apple Watch or any other Apple device besides my iPhone 17, yet I’m still facing issues with Always-On Display. It was working fine for about a week after I posted this issue here, but over the past couple of days, it’s started acting up once again & it's extremely annoying.
I really hope Apple addresses this bug in the next update—I’m eagerly waiting for a fix.
Always-On Display is one of the key USPs of the iPhone 17 base model this year, and glitches like this are simply unacceptable.
Just purchased IPhone 17 pro was working fine….but I updated from iOS 26.01 to a beta version to get a couple new features and ever since that. My AOD isn’t working tried everything apple suggested. When is next iOS update to fix this. I’m very unhappy right now! All my coworkers are like …Should have bought a Samsung!” Ughhh come on guys ! FIX THIS!!!!
I do not have any Focus modes enabled except for Do Not Disturb, but that only turns on at 10PM. The issue with the AOD is a recuring problem, and I don't think it has anything to do with Focus modes.
What do Accessibility Settings have to do with AOD issues? If you're going to offer assistance, it is helpful to provide context, and what do you mean when you say "reset your accessibility settings"? Other than using Adaptive Brightness (under Accessibility -> Display & Text Size -> Auto-Brightness), I have not made any changes to any accessibility settings.
I've tried using a Shortcuts-based restart, but not the specific method you linked to—are these any different?
