Multitasking is so difficult on iPadOS 26
Hello. I just installed the OS 26 and the split screen feature is gone?
I get it that there's the three dots now functioning the same as if they're on desktop, but that just makes everything super confusing and not very useful. I've listed my reasons because they're getting longer and longer the more I explore.
- In the former split screen feature the apps would automatically divide, snap into place, I could easily slide them to the left and right side of my screen. Or I could just drag another app to the one I already have on fullscreen and voila, split screen. It was super easy, but now I gotta individually go into each apps, tap my screen a dozen times to figure out how to make the three buttons appear, click one of them, then manually drag the sides until I find my preference. Every, single, time I have to use the apps.
- And when I close them, they stay peeking from each side of my screen which is giving me one of the biggest irks.
- Once I exit from the apps I've been using by dragging up, I have to individually tap each apps for them to appear on the screen together again. On the previous OS, they'd minizime and open in unison.
- So I found out that you can drag up a couple of times for the peekers I've mentioned in 2 to disappear, but you still have to open the apps individually.
- OK and ironically, by dragging down from the top of the screen there's a tiny menu and apparently I can snap my apps to take half side of the screen (left, right, top, bottom). My question is: Why has it become so complicated? Why does something I could do with a drag of fingertip, now require me to go through at least a few menus or windows in order to be completed? Why have a touchsreen then? Please include a mouse with your ipads if I have to do those in the future.
- (Edit) So you can resize your app by long press and dragging the corner. (Keep in mind I'm finding these random features totally by accident, no guide, no hint) But I still have to open the other app, repeat the process and manually get them together side by side.
- Let's say I want to swap my apps' sides. I drag app A to the other side, it doesn't swap with app B but overlaps it. And suddenly I can't tap on anything on app B. I can only drag the upper left corner for app B to move around. Surprisingly it sometimes works and sometimese don't which is just messy. I guess there's some tapable area on the top side of the app, but when I try to press that, the desktop like window I mentioned in 5 gets in my way! This is so bothersome!
I'm a freelance artist and it was so convenient for me to use my drawing app with Freeform side by side with much ease, but I can't do that now. I get it that there's multiple ways for me to aquire that feature, but it has become so inconvenient.
