Voicemail Transcription said my friend is dead.

Hi guys. I’ve gotten a voicemail from my friends father. “Blake’s dead.” It said. I called back immediately in a panic to check and everything was fine. I think he said “Blake’s dad” on the message.

Is the transcription carrier based?

I don't think so, but, like Chattanoogan, I'm not sure.

If the person speaking is speaking softly, is in a noisy environment (cars with the windows down are the worst!), has an accent that strays too far from American Standard, or mumbles, the transcription can go wrong. It's unfortunate that this time it went wrong in such an upsetting way.

And have fun smoking the work.

So, just imagining my own reaction to the scenario, did the OP actually listen to the voice mail? It would have been my first reaction. Seriously, isn’t “let’s smoke some work” a clue? And then posts it here. For what purpose?

To be honest, I never listen to voicemails. At one point, I had a message telling people not to leave them. But I don't really read the transcription, either. If they're people I know, I call them back.

But no, I don't quite see the point of posting it here beyond, perhaps misery loves company?
