Imported EPub glitching out within certain page range in Apple Books

Hi all, I have an iPad Air 4th gen running iPadOS 26.0.1. I'm also in a class that uses an eBook for a textbook. I imported the textbook into Apple Books as an .epub file, and for a while it worked fine. I've been able to flip through the pages, add bookmarks, and highlight lines. However, a couple days ago, it started glitching when I got to a certain page range (around chapter 5). The book would become unresponsive, turn black, reappear, then repeat the process. I've tried the following:

1. Rebooting my iPad
2. Turning off iCloud Drive syncing for Apple Books, then turning it back on
3. Deleting the .epub file then re-downloading it
4. Turning on/off Background App Refresh
5. Restarting the app
6. Validating the .epub file itself
7. Trying a different theme (I use the dark theme that matches my iPad)
8. Trying the Epub 3 version of the eBook (since the one I've been using is version 2)
