iBook G4 charger - would like help making sure I order the right one

Hello,

I need a new charger for my iBook G4. I want to make sure I'm getting the correct one off eBay as there are different kinds. When looking at purchasing a charger, what should I be looking at in the listing to ensure I get the correct one for my iBook G4?

I also have a PowerBook Wallstreet that is having issues. Is there a better place to trouble shoot that or will the Apple Community pages be okay for that?

Here are the details for my iBook G4:

  • Model Name: iBook G4
  • Model Identifier: Powerbook 6,7
  • Processor Name: PowerPC G4 (1.5)
  • Processor Speed: 1.42GHz
  • Amperage (mA): 1747
  • Voltage (mV): 16121
  • AC Charger (Watts): 65
  • Cycle Count: 180 (for the battery, condition: good)

In the user's guide (page 67) at

https://cdsassets.apple.com/live/6GJYWVAV/user/ma97_ibook_g4_mid_2005_users_guide.pdf, a 24.5 V DC output at 1.875 A is mentioned, which would mean only approx. 45 W power.

However, as also indicated by your details, a 65 W model (that is, with a maximum allowable current of approx. 2.65 A at the above DC output voltage) appears to have been used (later?) as well. It is probably wise to look for a power adapter with this higher 65 W power rating.

In the iBook G4 (Mid 2005) - Technical Specifications - Apple Support, an Apple Portable Power Adapter M8943LL/A was listed. One should perhaps not rule out that this number could be different from country to country, though.

Always double-check specifications/text/labels on a computer and/or a power adapter before use. Also make sure that the size of the low-voltage DC plug is correct.

Regarding the PowerBook Wallstreet (G3) computer, you could post any questions in the Older Hardware forum.

Thank you for the update. The various order/model/item numbers can be confusing. Take a close look at (and enlarge) pictures of listed items. Double-check all texts/labels. An output voltage 24.5 V DC and a current value 2.65 A (meaning a power capacity of approx. 65 W) should be mentioned. Check that the low voltage DC plug is the proper round one with the correct dimensions.

The charger I have currently has a bent pin.

Is this the centre pin of the round low voltage DC plug, or would it possibly be one of the input AC prongs?

It's the centre pin and part of the outer ring that is bent. It still charges, but goes on/off and doesn't hold steady, so looking to replace it before it damages the battery.

The one listing is "Nearly NEW OEM Apple 65W Power Adapter ADP-65GB 611-0388 A1021 for iBook G3 G4", the full listing is: ebay.ca/itm/227006374997 . It looks that it has 24.5V and 2.65A in the third image.

Thank you so much!

The charger I have currently has a bent pin. It's been so long I don't know if this is the one that came with the iBook or another after market. The details on it are:

Apple Japan

Input AC 100 - 240v 50-60 Hz

127 - 182VA Output 24.5V --- 2.65A

DELTA ELECTRONICS (Thailand) Public Co. , LTD. ADP-65GB

AC INPUT: 1.5A V85 Apparaten skall anslutas till jordat uttag

And on the other side:

Apple 65W Portable Power Adapter

Designed by Apple in California

Assembled in Thailand Model No. A1021

I see how this post is now redundant as I'm typing, but as long as the new adapter is Apple, Model Number A1021 and 65w, it should be fine, correct? I get very worried about all these numbers, one listing has "611-0388 A1021" in the listing which makes me concerned that I'm going to get something that won't work. I know companies like to make minute changes to different models so previous accessories won't work. I like this iBook and would like to continue to use it and don't want to accidentally damage it.
