Issue with copying MIDI files and duplicating instruments on the same session

WHEN I TRY TO COPY midi files on to the same session it duplicates the instrument or does not copy

Are you certain that you are using the appropriate command?

You might have a different key command assigned. You might also want to initialize your key commands so you can start fresh.
