Phishing email on Mac

I received this emil this morning and was surpised when checking the sender. Original message included a line about loading remote content through VPN configuration. Machine is a 2019 Macbook Pro MacOs Sequoia 15.6.1.

It is just a spoofed sending address. That is common with many spam messages and you can view the actual Headers of the email by going to Mail > View > Message > All Headers. The location closest to the sender is shown on the bottom as the first hop. The From fields in the header are just text strings that are altered in the Header when the messages are sent. Previous scams showed your email address there with the claim that your account had been compromised and tried to convince users that they were sending them from your own account.


Apple recommends forwarding the email to them here:

If you receive a suspicious email that looks like it's supposed to be from Apple, please forward it to reportphishing@apple.com.
