Duplicate file creation in iCloud on Mac mini

Posting again...lest you think I'm grossly inexperienced with computers...I'm 68 and have worked 8-10 per day since 1985 on Macs. I had the second Mac ever put out! BUT STILL, in iCloud I just saved a file--and it did not ask me whether I wanted to replace the existing file. It just created 2 files--she Chapter 2 below. WHY IS IT DOING THAT? See screen shot attached. I'm on a Mac Mini, withe the Apple M2 Pro chip, running Sequoia 15.5

The icon is different, so you seem to have made this into a different file. Perhaps it was Word that saved it with a different extension, but you didn't show that, and we don't know what you were doing. You beef may be with Microsoft.

By the way, we don't check IDs before offering our help…

Thank you. I too noticed the different icons...but have no idea why the system did that. I also can't expand the columns so that you can see the full name of the file. Thanks for your help. I'll reach out on the Microsoft community pages.

I tried to "save as "a trial Word document in a number of different formats, and I don't get the big W for an icon. Maybe you have a different version than I have. Curious…
