Since I upgraded to Tahoe Mail shows some mails in Helvetica Cyrillic. The senders obviously used Regular. I tried changing the preferred font to Arial in Mail preferences, when that did not solve the problem I disabled all Helvetica Cyrillic fonts in the font catalog. No succes. In Text editor the font shows correctly. Suggestions?

No suggestions other than to submit a bug report but so far you are the only one reporting this issue. Have you tired restarting your iMac in Safe Mode?
Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support
If the problem goes away then restart in normal mode and test again.
Others have reported similar font issues in Mail since Tahoe. I have not encountered it.
