Connecting Apple Cinema Display 27 to a Windows PC

I have a Thunderbolt 4 port in my Thinkpad, an Apple original adapter, but no luck.

Thoughts?

The 27-inch Apple Thunderbolt Display (not to be confused with the older LED Cinema Display) only works with devices that output a Thunderbolt video signal, not standard DisplayPort or USB-C alt-mode video. Even though your ThinkPad has Thunderbolt 4, Windows machines generally can’t negotiate Apple’s Thunderbolt display handshake properly. That’s why you’re getting no video signal despite having the original Apple adapter.

If your display is actually the LED Cinema Display (Mini DisplayPort version) — check the connector: a Mini DisplayPort icon (⚡️ means Thunderbolt) — then you’re in luck. You can connect it using a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter or a USB-C to Mini DisplayPort cable that supports DP Alt Mode. You’ll still need to plug in the USB cable from the display to your PC for brightness control, sound, and camera functions.
