Discrepancy in about of messages stored between iPhone and Mac

My iPhone shows 6.98 GB of messages and my Mac shows 60.68 GB. Wondering what is causing such a huge discrepancy and thinking there are things on the Mac that could be duplicates? Appreciate any help. Thank you.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 15.6

That is quite the discrepancy. It's possible you've deleted a number of conversations on your iPhone but not your Mac- you can check each individual device storage and compare. My guess is that it's a bunch of photos or videos.

For iPhone: open Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Messages and take a look through the media you have sent/received

For Mac: click the Apple menu in the top left, then About This Mac > Storage > Manage > Messages
