I cannot tell what it is because I cannot see the whole screen. Is the black area beneath those lines supposed to be there?

Take a screenshot. Then view the screenshot on another device/display. You can also view it on this iMac, but you will need to move the picture above the "defect" so you can see if the issue is shown in the screenshot. If the screenshot does not show the problem, then the iMac's built-in Display Assembly is bad.

Edit: If the screenshot shows the problem, then most likely it is a graphic glitch, perhaps from the app being used.

Even tech repair iMac do mention this

Known iMac 24″ (M1 2021) Screen Line Defect: Recently, a flood of user reports has surfaced about horizontal lines permanently appearing on the 24-inch M1 iMac’s display after ~2 years of use. Apple hasn’t officially recalled this, but evidence suggests a hardware design flaw. Technicians discovered that a flex cable in the display carries high voltage (around 50V at full brightness) and tends to overheat and burn out over time, causing short-circuits that produce black horizontal lines. Unfortunately, the only reliable fix for this issue is to replace the entire display assembly, because the cable is bonded to the screen. Apple Support has generally told affected users that an LCD replacement is the solution. However, replacing the screen is costly (often on the order of US $600–$700 for the 24″ iMac), and if the underlying design hasn’t changed, the problem could recur in a couple of years. "

PS: I NEVER use Full brightness. I always set Auto brightness. According from the tech , EVEN you get fix the problem Could Recur in a couple years....

You can see those " Lines " Below Mac Rumours. Yesterday I do contact to an Apple advisor. She told me , I take screen shot of it from my M3 iMac those lines will not shown. She just keep tell me bring to Apple store check. I don't want to waste my time. All fellow M1 to M3 iMac users already went to Apple store get it check end of the day Need to Pay get it fix and they don't pay to get fix. Some still continue using it despite got lines whereas some connect to Another monitor without looking at iMac screen.

This photo is taken from my iPhone 15., I do check around in here Apple community even almost entire internet online. A lot M1 to M3 iMac users encounter these " Lines " suddenly appear upon using it after one year and so and obviously Warranty is over..

I have restart Many times. Even turn off the main power , wait for few mins and turn on the M3 iMac the lines still there. When the iMac start boot up, I already noticed those lines appear. It will be white under black screen.

My usage is NEVER GPU aggressive, like playing intensive games. I not a gamer. I never play any games on my M3 iMac. I only do Simple task come work on this iMac. Come entertainment only see Youtube and Live stream.
