Can I color code notes in Notes app on MacBook?

In the new OS 26 can I color code notes in Notes app on MacBook?


I can color code Folders in Finder but how about this functionality in Notes?

MacBook Air 15″, macOS 26.0

If by “colour code” you mean “apply different background colours to each note” or “tag notes with a colour so they appear differently in the list”, then no — not as a dedicated built-in feature.

If by “colour code” you mean “use colours in the note (text colour / highlight)” then yes, you can.


Yes — you can apply colour-based formatting to text inside individual notes in Notes on your Mac (with macOS Tahoe / version 26).
